"Atarah Hazzan, who has sung Leonora in Il Trovatore and Elisabetta in Don Carlo with the Metropolitan Opera, takes on Marie in Wozzeck with the company on March 19. Earlier this season, when she portrayed Berg's heroine with the San Antonio Opera, she sang in English; now she does the role in German.
The soprano looks forward to a reunion with Verdi during the Met's spring tour - Desdemona in Otello, April 24 at Kennedy Center. Also on the way: Il Trovatore in Mexico City, with Fiorenza Cossotto, Michail Svetlev and Frederick Burchinal in the cast (May 10). A Mascagnian - last season she opened the Rome Opera in Parisina - Miss Hazzan will take up the challenge of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Met in 1980-81."
